One Mile Backwards Barefoot on the Beach
Wednesday, June 21st, 6:00 AM – 7:00 AM EDT
Come celebrate the solstice with your toes in the sand and a little backwards challenge! Meet us at Johnnie Mercers Pier in Wrightsville Beach, NC at 6:00am on Summer Solstice! If you live in Wilmington and you frequent Wrightsville Beach, then you've likely seen Tracy McCullen, backwards runner extraordinaire, peaking at the rearview mirror attached to his hat while striding backwards & training for his annual 100 miles BACKWARDS run at the UNCW Track. Well, now it's your turn! This year at the annual 100 4 Kids Ultra Challenge on winter solstice (December 21st), we're including a one mile backwards race (in three heats) with some serious prizes. Sooo, to help you prepare for the big race, we're hosting a one mile backwards fun run at Wrightsville Beach at sunrise on Summer Solstice so that you can learn from and train with the best 😉 Tracy's 100 Ultra 4 Kids is an annual effort to raise $100,000 for the kids of New Hanover County kids and families to have their very own Sports and Community Center. So, for the summer solstice run, we're asking that all registrants donate or raise a minimum of $50 to help lay the groundwork for Phase 1 of the Optimism Oasis (optimismoasis.com). Prizes will be awarded to participants who are able to raise $250 or more. Parking will be available at Johnnie Mercers Pier in Wrightsville Beach, NC. Barefoot running is OPTIONAL; running attire or swim shorts and bathing suit top recommended!
