A few years ago, we rescued sweet Peter and his siblings from out in the cold when they were just puppies. These babies were huddled together for warmth as the frigid air swirled around them. Shortly after coming into our care, Peter and his siblings were all adopted. Nothing could have made us happier to see these puppies find loving homes. However, Peter was recently returned to our care after becoming a bit snappy with the toddler in his home.

At first, this behavior made no sense to us. Peter had always been gentle and sweet. Why would he suddenly be snapping at this small child? However, when we learned the truth about how much pain poor Peter was in, everything made sense. Peter had somehow torn the Cruciate ligaments (similar to human ACL) in both of his back legs and had been forced to hobble around for months on his injured limbs. We don’t know whether Peter’s former owners were aware of his injury, but it is up to us to help him now.

Peter had been living in pain for so long, it is no wonder he didn’t want anyone coming near him. This poor boy has suffered greatly, but his agony will soon be over. Peter will need to undergo a double Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy in order to recover from his traumatic injury. After he has had some time to heal, we hope to see Peter back on his feet and able to run full speed into the open arms of a loving adoptive family.
