Supporting Creative Belonging Through the Fallout Creative Community

Doren Serfling was a joyful force in our community—a cheerful, easy-going, fun-loving soul whose infectious raspy laugh and open heart made everyone feel like a friend. Through music, film, conversation, and connection, Doren lived fully and shared generously.

He was a longtime member of the Fallout Creative Community and the Red Rooster Coffee House family. Doren helped launch the band Better Ride, collaborating on songwriting, performing across the state, filming music videos, and proudly sharing his creative work with everyone he met. He was also an active contributor to the local film scene through the Be Kind Film Collective, helping bring stories to life that reflected the richness and diversity of our community.

To honor his legacy, Doren’s family has established the Doren Serfling Memorial Fund, with all contributions going to Fallout Creative Community, a nonprofit dedicated to building community through the arts—especially with people who have disabilities, mental health challenges, or who find themselves on the margins.

Your donation will support:

  • Better Ride’s upcoming tour, including their performance at the Levvitt Stage in Sioux Falls at the ADA35 Celebration, a festival marking the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

  • New film projects through the Be Kind Film Collective, continuing the creative work Doren believed in and shaped.

  • And future community-building creative initiatives that foster expression, connection, and belonging—exactly the kind of world Doren helped us imagine.

As we wrote in Doren’s obituary:

“Doren lived life on his own terms and left a lasting mark on those lucky enough to know him. He was a character in the best sense of the word—creative, kind, funny, and fiercely himself.”

With your help, his creative spirit will live on in the work he helped build and the community he loved.

Thank you for being part of honoring Doren’s life and legacy.
