Hey y'all! IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN!  Duval County Queer Pride has teamed up with The Walrus to bring you an action packed weekend full of queer chaos! The prime real estate, diamond in the rough(trade), our piece (of ass) d'resistance: DRAG FEST! We are currently raising $2000 to cover the costs of over 10 drag entertainers for our end of pride month drag celebration DRAG FEST! IMPORTANT: This page is designed to sell tickets in order to raise enough funds to make the event entirely sliding scale based, meaning, your purchase of $15 or more secures that those unable to afford a ticket will still be able to attend pride. We at DCQP believe that pride celebrations should be accessible to EVERYONE, not just those with $15 in their pocket.  Cast list announced soon..... ************************************************************************************************************************ Do you like drag shows? Good ones, where the performers get appropriately paid for the work they put in? Well boy howdy do we have something for you! DRAGFEST! is a good old fashion drag show and dance party FOR QUEERS, BY QUEERS. Saturday June 29th at The Walrus. Doors @ 8PM, shows and dance music all night long! Here is a universal truth: DRAG IS EXPENSIVE. Here is another: DRAG ENTERTAINERS AREN'T PAID ENOUGH. Not just exclusively to Jacksonville, drag entertainers across the country are often paid anywhere between $20-$50 a gig, and most often, not at all. Just for context: -Lace Front Wig: $50 -Size 13 heels: $60 -Standard Makeup Kit: $150+ -Professional Dance Tights: $20-$30 a pair (you need multiple) -Hip Pads: $50-$100 -Nails & Nail Glue: $10 TOTAL: $400 These are not just start up costs. These are routine business expenses for working girls and this isn't even an exhaustive list (don't get us started on costumes!). This only covers direct financial overhead, not even accounting for time spent assembling the look, practicing, promoting, and performing. DRAG FEST is part of a larger citywide initiative to ensure that nightlife entertainers are adequately paid of their services to the community. Translation: WERE SICK OF SEEING QUEER PEOPLE GET PAID LESS THAN THEY ARE WORTH There IS no PRIDE without DRAG! Drag entertainment is a necessary and sacred pillar of our community. If a drag entertainer can’t get paid during paid month, when can they??? If you support local drag, local arts, and hardworking queers, please consider attending, donating, and/or sharing this invite so we can get an ethical rate of $125 for each of our drag entertainers.
