Capt. Dan and Angie Bryan need your help right now!

2020 was not a good year for anyone but it’s been particularly hard for them.

Capt. Dan Bryan and his wife Angie have had one unfortunate incident after another for over a year now.

HERE’S THE SHORT VERSION OF THE STORY….

Bad weather early in 2020 affected his business negatively before Covid lockdowns brought his business to a total halt. Shortly thereafter, his boat motor blew up requiring him to get a loan for $17,000. Then Hurricane Zeta hit, demolishing his and Angie’s home and damaging his truck and work equipment/tools. Before he could get his home repaired, he had prostate surgery due to prostate cancer. Within two weeks, he was back in the hospital with MRSA staph. He came home unable to walk due to sepsis arthritis and within days was back in the hospital for round two battling staph. He was in rehab for 3 weeks trying to rebuild his muscles so he can walk. It’s been a year since either Dan or Angie have been able to work and may be 6 months to a year until Dan can resume work again.

ABOUT DAN & ANGIE:

Dan Bryan is a 65-year-old U.S. Coast Guard captain who has been a licensed bowfishing guide in Leeville, LA for 30 years. He runs his own business, Big Dog Bowfishing. He is married to Angie, who was forced to leave her career in the entertainment industry because of Covid.

DAN’S HEALTH:

Dan had surgery for Prostate Cancer and had his prostate removed on November 20, 2020 at University Medical Center in New Orleans. He left the hospital walking as usual and went home in normal physical condition. He later contracted MRSA Staph in his blood, bones and joints—a battle which lasted for two months and required three surgeries on his shoulder, middle and lower back during the course of a month. He was first hospitalized for staph on December 6, 2020 in Houma and released on December 24, 2020.

When he left the hospital, he could not walk or take care of himself without help and then his Staph reoccurred requiring Dan to be hospitalized again at Chabert Hospital in Houma, LA on January 14, 2021. He was then transferred to Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans on January 23^rd where he stayed for three weeks.

It has been touch and go as Dan recovers from the MRSA Staph and learns how to walk again on a walker. He does not have use of his left shoulder (complications from a previous injury that cannot be corrected until he has been free of staph for two years). He still has many months of rehab ahead of him plus IV antibiotics for the MRSA Staph Infection. He has not regained use of his left arm since being released from rehab.

THE HURRICANES & WEATHER DAMAGE:

On October 28^th Hurricane Zeta made a direct hit on the Louisiana coast and on Dan & Angie’s home. It took the roof and porches off their home, flooded Dan’s work truck, the golf cart, new John Deere zero-turn lawnmower, one of Dan’s work boats, his utility trailer, his work tools, utility shed next to the house, and other items that insurance will not cover. Flood and Homeowners covers cash value, so Dan and Angie are responsible for the difference between cash value and replacement cost, plus deductible….in addition to the items that are not covered.

On October 9, 2020, Hurricane Delta hit her Father’s property in North Louisiana and damaged a storage shed and downed trees. And on February 1th a severe winter storm hit Louisiana with ice and snow which lasted for almost a week, damaging their storage unit beyond repair. Angie and Dan are dealing with this also.

ANGIE’S DAD:

Angie has been traveling from South Louisiana to North Louisiana 2 times a month for the past 3 years to take care of her 82-year-old father who has congestive heart failure and is a stroke victim. Angie is an only child who carries the sole responsibility of caring for her father and Dan.

Since Dan’s illness and subsequent hospitalization, Angie has had to hire a 24/7 caregiver to care for her dad, who is now in hospice so she can be available for Dan's care.

DAN’S SON

Angie and Dan also have the responsibility of caring for the needs of Dan’s 43-year old son who is a heart and stroke victim from 2 years ago. They have a LOT of responsibility and financial obligations as they pay monthly personal and business bills in addition to loans for repair or replacement of items damaged in the hurricane (that are not covered by insurance).

THE NEED

Dan and Angie have both been out of work since March of 2020 due to Covid and weather from numerous named hurricanes hitting South Louisiana this past year. The extreme weather has prevented Capt. Dan from booking bowfishing trips. At this time, they do not know how long it will be until Dan is able to return to work because of his health.

Dan and Angie are dedicated Christians and believe that GOD IS IN CONTROL even when things look their worst. They are trusting God and taking one day at a time.
