Lisa Carter's Story

Lisa has been in the world of performing arts since age 10, when her mother put her in dance class and she got a taste of the stage. At that point, her dad took her to see the movie Cabaret, and that's when she knew, this is what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. Although her truest passion, when deciding on college, she became a dental hygienist for stability and always kept performing arts as a cherished hobby.

In 2007, Lisa created her own production company known as Triple Threat Productions, where she produced and directed her own "Rip the Mic…Burn the Floor", combining vocalists and dancers in a full-scale production. It was a big hit. The following year, she produced an even bigger version of Rip the Mic, with a cast of 43 performers. After the success of Rip the Mic, Lisa began performing with her own band and also sang with acoustic musicians, doing lounge acts in local restaurant and nightclub venues.

It was in 2009 that she decided to venture out and produce a tribute show—a Cher Tribute Show. Her love for impersonation was poured into a performance dedicated to singing Cher's greatest hits. During a nightclub gig in one of her Cher shows, she had a chance encounter with her “Sonny”, and soon the Sonny and Cher Show took off like wildfire on the local scene.

She has now been working professionally as a Cher tribute artist for the past 15 years, alongside seasoned musicians from New York who help bring her dream to life. Traveling to casinos, theaters, and corporate events, Lisa is living her dream to the fullest. When asked to participate in Dancing with Heart, it was an immediate yes: “It brings me back to where I started—that little girl on stage that had a twinkle in her eye for performing and making people happy. That’s what it’s all about—being a storyteller through music, dance, and art.”

You can see Lisa and her band in "The Ultimate Cher Experience" at www.ultimatecher.com.

She also recently teamed up with Dave Brinnel, a pianist, vocalist, music arranger, and harmonica player (and all-around great guy), where they perform jazz standards with a twist under the name, “A Couple of Swingers—It Don’t Mean a Thing if It Ain’t Got That Swing”. More details can be found at www.acoupleofswingers.com.

Lisa currently works as a part-time dental hygienist, jazz singer, and Cher tribute artist. When she’s not performing, she spends time with her mom, Josephine, who never misses a show, as well as her friends and her very supportive family. “I don’t take one second for granted. I’m very blessed to do what I love, and I have a balance of normal life with my family and friends. And let’s not forget my two beautiful cats, Gypsy and Tramp—both Cher-inspired pets!”

Thank you, Dancing with Heart—I am honored.
