What is the Day of Play?

Our Third Annual Summer Fundraiser!

This year, the Diane Fund is holding a community fundraiser open to all ages, in which we will be raising both money and awareness for families afflicted with cancer. For our third-annual Day of Play, we are reaching out to ask for your support in our goal of bringing together a community of compassionate people. The fundraiser is scheduled for June 24 at Sagamore Farms, where the Dolan family has offered their generosity in allowing us to use their beautiful estate. The day will consist of games, food, and team events, providing a fun and energetic atmosphere for all participants and supporters. The structure of the event is that participants play games to earn points. Each 1 point is backed by $1 by a third-party sponsor, so increased participation leads to increased fundraising. The goal of our fundraising structure is to get everyone involved. The Day of Play fundraising is unique as it involves not only generous parents supporting the cause, but every young child, teenager, and adult has a great opportunity to make a large impact for others.

The entrance fee for this year's event will be $5, as we hope that this will be able to cover the costs of food and labor, while also providing a donation for the patients. The event is overseen by the Bone Marrow and Cancer Foundation, as it is with their help that organizing this event is even possible! Any help would be greatly appreciated by all of us at the Diane Fund and the Bone Marrow and Cancer Foundation.

Our Mission Statement:

The Diane Fund was founded in 2018 in memory of my mother and friend, Diane Lohan. Donations to The Diane Fund directly support the critical needs of cancer patients and their families through the long-standing patient assistance programs at the Bone Marrow & Cancer Foundation (BMCF). The goal of The Diane Fund is to help provide financial and emotional support to cancer patients and their families who may not be able to cover the costly expenses associated with their treatment.

Diane Ellen Lohan was my mother, but she was really so much more than that. Working as a police officer in Suffolk County, she loved to help and care for people, and knowing her as a child, this was all I saw from her. She was there for me if I was scared in the night as I often was- or even if I wanted something as small as a glass of water. Nothing was too much for my mom, and every day I try to help others in the

way that she helped me. I was inspired by my mother’s kindness and compassion to start The Diane Fund at BMCF to raise money for patients and families struggling with the many burdens that come with a cancer diagnosis. Every day, I think of my mother, and I try to make her proud.

My wish is that The Diane Fund at BMCF will allow patients with cancer to receive the highest quality treatment and alleviate the many financial and emotional burdens faced by families during treatment and recovery. As a teenager who lost his mother too soon, I want to provide hope and support for children in similar situations, so that their loved ones have the best chance for recovery.
