The Doctor Alex Ernst Memorial Education Center stands as a testament to the life and legacy of Alexander Joseph "AJ" Ernst, who passed away too soon on the evening of December 1, 2023, at the age of 45. Born and raised in Lower Township, AJ grew up with a profound love for fishing and animals, passions that would shape his future career and personal life.

 

AJ's academic journey began at the University of Maine, where he earned his undergraduate degree. His dedication to animal care and welfare led him to the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island, where he obtained his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. His expertise and enthusiasm for veterinary science culminated in his role as the Assistant Director and Veterinarian at the Cape May County Zoo.

 

Known for his boundless passion for his work, AJ's excitement was evident in numerous media articles highlighting his contributions to the zoo and the wider community. His colleagues and the public admired his dedication to animal care and conservation.

 

Beyond his professional achievements, AJ was celebrated for his incredible sense of humor and his title as the king of sarcasm. His vibrant personality and knack for bringing joy to every gathering made him the life of every party.
