After being admitted to the hospital in critical condition on Tuesday, Dusty had improved enough to be discharged from the hospital on Thursday night so that we could continue her treatment in a home environment. She was alert and had so much more light in her eyes upon arriving home, but by midday Friday she was back to being listless and barely moving.
We could tell that the pain meds she received upon discharge were just not cutting it, so her doctor approved a stronger pain med, which she received last night. Thankfully that did the trick and Dusty is back to her curious and adorable self - following me around, checking in on her "sister" and enjoying lots of pets (including belly rubs!).
While we are grateful for this improvement, Dusty still has a long road ahead of her before she can start to enjoy her retirement. We need to clear up this severe pancreatitis flare and get her appetite where it needs to be. We also need to get back the results of her urine culture to be sure she isn't dealing with an infection that requires antibiotics. While she received antibiotics in the hospital, her doctor is waiting for the culture results before starting her on them at home. On top of her pancreatitis, anorexia, hyperthyroidism and progressed kidney disease, Dusty has also been sniffly since returning home, so she may need antibiotics regardless...this 19 year old sweetie has been through a lot since July 17th.
Thank you to everyone that has donated to Dusty's care so far - we are beyond grateful for your generosity and support. It takes a village to do good and we couldn't do any of this without you all!
Please continue to share Dusty's fundraiser if you can!

07/26/2023 AM Update
Today's ultrasound revealed severe pancreatitis so pain meds were added to Dusty's list of therapy. They also saw a "structure" in her bladder, which could either be a clot or a tumor. Currently, their focus is on getting the pancreatitis resolved so that Dusty can start to feel well enough to eat again. She will continue to be hospitalized for at least another 24 hours, which has added an additional $2K to our bill estimate. 😿
Thank you to everyone that has donated so far! There is an option to share this fundraiser as well...please share if you are able to!
