Last year, the Emerson Basketball program had their first annual Mental Health Fundraiser with Doc Wayne Youth Services. In just three weeks, our community raised over $2700 for Doc Wayne. $50 covers one therapy session, so in total Emerson raised money for over 50 different children’s sessions.

The teams had special warm-up shirts that read a simple message: Mental Health Matters.

This year, everyone at Emerson Basketball wanted to have the event again, but this time with even more meaning.

Along with raising money for Doc Wayne and their therapy services, Emerson athletics is collaborating with Emerson Wellness and their annual Self Care Fair, reminding everyone that they matter.

For all of us here at Emerson Basketball, there’s no bigger honor than using sports for good. We all know the love that comes from playing basketball: we experience it everyday. Now we get to know the love that comes from making a difference, from using our platform to help change the lives of young athletes in our Boston community.

We’re incredibly proud to support Mental Health Awareness and ending the mental health stigma in college athletics. The more normalized the discussion of mental health becomes, the easier it will be for those struggling to get help. We believe that if everyone owned a Mental Health Matters shirt, slowly but surely, the world would truly believe it – that mental health matters.

The 2nd Annual Mental Health Matters Doubleheader is on Wednesday, January 31st at the Bobbi Brown & Steven Plofker Gym. The women's team hosts MIT at 5 PM, followed by the men's team hosting WPI at 7 PM. Let's go Lions!
