Frontera is expanding our outdoor Nature Education Program to include the creation of a Stewardship and Junior Explorer program! Will you help us launch the Stewardship Program? Adding this program to the existing educational program will only expand our reach into the whole community and region! The Stewardship program will offer the opportunity to individuals and families to actively maintain, manage, and expand conservation activities within Frontera natural open spaces. By growing and engaging stewardship volunteers, we have more “owners” of the land that will ensure that it is well cared for and watched over.

The Stewardship Program partners with students and communities of all ages to take an active role in managing the lands, as a volunteer, of the community natural open spaces of El Paso. The stewardship program will consist of:

Young Stewards: Students will serve as representatives of their generation by reaching out to their community and sharing feedback they learn with Frontera.
Career Mentorship: Professionals in the conservation field will volunteer to guide young aspiring conservation leaders toward their future goals. Opportunities include presenting at career workshops, networking to share Frontera’s mission, and job shadowing Frontera staff.
Trail Monitors (Trailblazers): Volunteers, while on the nature preserve lands, will be in contact with outdoor recreation users (hikers, mountain bikers, trail runners), where they will engage and share the value of the land. Also, through on-the-ground monitoring, the volunteers will report back on the conditions of trails, any trash that needs to be addressed, or any specific violation of the conservation easement terms.
Information Booths (Trail guides): Volunteers will set up booths at each trailhead when it is peek for high use to provide safety messages, leave no trace principles, and provide outdoor education to the visitors.
