The Neighborhood Resource Center (NRC) -- affectionately known as the little blue house -- at 1208 E 10th St. is a renovated historic structure stewarded by buildingcommunityWORKSHOP ([bc]) in the Tenth Street Historic District, one of the nation’s oldest intact Freedmen’s Towns. The home opened to the public on June 15, 2024 and is now being used by residents in the neighborhood as a place of organizing, planning and arts events.

We need your help to keep the NRC thriving in 2025!

Over the course of 2025, the NRC will host four phases of programming and artist exhibition curated by local artist Hakeem Adewumi and his Juneteenth House project. Each phase will focus on a different facet of local Black history, culture, and future.

Phase 1: An Intimate Perspective of 10th Street's Legacy
Phase 2: Art In Its Core Function, spotlighting issues within the district that can be addressed through art and design.
Phase 3: Genre of A Feeling/A Place Is A Sound, exploring the foundations of music and its origin in Black spaces like the Tenth Street District.
Phase 4: Our Future Leaders, amplifying youth activity and artmaking.

The works selected throughout 2025 will draw from a blend of neighborhood artists, open artist calls, and invitation. Through the course of the four phases, Adewumi will work to ground the neighborhood in its identity as a Black space, while exploring how over time its identity shifts and expands.

We need $100,000 to make this work happen -- and every little bit helps get us closer to that goal.

Here's an example of what your generosity provides:

$25 Purchases basic supplies for the house

$50 Allows us to provide refreshments at workshops and neighborhood meetings

$100 Pays for the cost of Internet for one month

$250 Covers basic utilities at the house for one month

$500 Provides all art supplies for a full season of workshops
