Joey's Story

A few weeks ago, Joey, a sweet, broken boy was found wandering a Texas road, starving and covered in wounds. He had no rescue, no transport, and no one to step up. But the you made it possible for us to say yes.

Joey made it to emergency care, where he began treatment for Ehrlichia (a bacterical disease transmitted primarily by ticks which infects white blood cells), whipworm, and severe skin infections.

He’s now in a loving foster home, getting medicated baths and healing slowly, but steadily. His coat is improving, the redness is fading, and he’s even growing hair again.

But his journey is far from over. Joey recently had x-rays, and what they revealed was devastating: two old, untreated fractures.

One will require a major surgery—an FHO—to give him a real shot at a pain-free life.

We are asking for help. Joey is just one of many Springers in crisis, and ESRA is facing a $23,000 monthly deficit. Springers like George, who came to us with a shattered pelvis and broken femoral head, or Daisy, who needed emergency surgery, will receive the care they need — and the love they deserve.
