Dina Barron was more than just the mother of our Founder, Dr. Christine Coleman; she was a beacon of healing and hope for countless individuals and families across the Bay Area. For over 40 years, Dina dedicated her life to the practice of psychotherapy, guiding others through the darkest moments of anxiety, anger, and depression with unwavering compassion. Her deep commitment to the community was a testament to her belief in the power of connection and healing.

A Courageous Battle

In 2021, the devastating news of Dina’s stage 4 cancer diagnosis shook Christine and her entire family to their core. What should have been a time of rest and reflection for Dina turned into a courageous battle. She faced her illness with the same strength and determination that she had shown throughout her life, fighting fiercely until her final breath on April 17, 2024. Her legacy of care, resilience, and love continues to inspire all who knew her.

Dina was not just a believer in Sol Sisters—she was its inspiration. Her influence on Christine was profound, shaping her path to becoming a therapist and instilling in her the belief in the power of sisterhood. Christine witnessed the strength and support her mother found in her women’s circle, a bond that guided her to start and continually drive Sol Sisters forward.

Grief is a journey with waves of emotions and experiences, each wave offering an opportunity for meaning-making—the art of transforming pain into purpose. The Dina Barron Legacy Fund honors the woman whose spirit and dedication laid the foundation of Sol Sisters. More importantly, this fund will provide deserving women with the mental health resources they need. To continue Dina’s invaluable work, we are launching this fund to offer free mental health services to our Sol Sisters members, ensuring that her legacy of care and compassion lives on.

Our members are women who lack the ability to access valuable resources such as education, mentorship, financial planning, leisure activities, fitness and nutrition classes, job coaching, networking opportunities, and more due to social determinants including:

Economic instability
Lack of access to quality education
Marginalization that includes sexism and racism
Housing and transportation instability
Community violence
Lack of access to quality health care

Mental health education can empower marginalized women by breaking down stigma, improving access to care, and fostering culturally responsive programs. Your contribution will directly support Phase 1 of Sol Sisters' mental health initiatives, which include ongoing quality mental health education through psychoeducational workshops and healing circles led by licensed mental health professionals.

Looking ahead, our future initiatives will focus on creating a digital directory of inclusive therapists across California who offer sliding scale therapy services, providing free therapy hours for our members, and establishing a mental health clinic that offers low to no cost therapy services to our clients and their families.Your donation is a step towards ensuring these vital resources become a reality, continuing Dina’s legacy of care and support for those who need it most.
