Special Message from Grandmother Taiha - Moetu

"In September 2018, I was gifted a journey to Egypt. At the time, I had already planned to travel to Machu Picchu in Peru for a two-week period, which was the only spot open in my calendar.

I received a call from an Egyptian woman whom I had never met and didn’t know, asking me to come to Egypt. This was not a country I had ever planned to visit, so I said no.

She called again and offered me the journey for free. I explained that Machu Picchu had been in my Wairua forever, and this two-week period was the only time I had available. I said no again.

Then I spoke with my Loved Ones about this kaupapa that had come up again, and my Koroua said, 'When she calls again, ask her why and say yes.' I was pretty sure—and honestly hoping—that she wouldn’t ring back.

But she did, and she said it would be the last time she would call. So, I asked her why. She explained that she had recently lost her beloved father and was deeply missing him. While flicking through Facebook, my profile kept appearing, and she felt compelled to offer me this journey, guided by her father’s spirit.

And so, I cancelled my trip to Peru and embarked on an amazing journey to Egypt.

I was completely exhausted because I had come directly from an intense month of Mahi in the States. While I was there, I revisited some of my past-life stories—something I had not expected—but that is not the kaupapa I am sharing right now.

When I returned to my home in Germany at the time, the Loved Ones began to bring it all together for me and revealed why they had opened the portal for this Mahi to be done.

My dad, who had served in the Māori Battalion alongside many of my uncles and others, and the men of Germany—my ex-partner is German, and I was living there—had gone to Egypt during the war. They had desecrated the land, spilled blood, and left the imprint of war.

My Tipuna from the lifetime I had lived in Egypt asked me to return to 'clean it up.'

And so, a small group of us will be going in September 2025. The group will include my brother and sister-in-law, who are both ex-army and have knowledge about our dad and where they were in Egypt; my sister, who will perform the karanga and karakia to whakatau-whakawātea; Awhitawa and his crew, who will represent the moko and tuarua of our people and record the journey; as well as two Germans and the rest, Americans.

This is sacred work, and I am humbled to take this step forward."

Day 4: Private Ceremony at the Sphinx, then a flight to Aswan to begin our Nile Cruise. 🦁

Day 6: Journey to Kom Ombo, sailing along the Nile. 🚤
