Help send Elexis to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders

Hi, my name is Elexis Renee’ Adams. I am a Sophomore at Frost ISD as well as a Sophomore at Navarro College. I was born in the heat of the summer in 2007, in Corsicana, Texas. I do not remember a lot about my childhood, but my mom still tells stories about how I was going to be the death of her. Apparently sleep did not come easy for me, because my family never enjoyed that luxury. Needless to say, I had very strong lungs. I was also the kid into everything, very curious, active, constantly asking questions, and demanding answers. It seems I never had down time!!

I entered school with a BANG, I was ready to learn!! As you may imagine I drove my teachers crazy; however, they loved my eagerness. From the moment I entered school I was consumed with learning and interested in how to help people. I loved my doctor and I wanted to be just like her! Throughout elementary school my passion grew and has continued to grow throughout my teenage years.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a girl that's all work and no play! I am blessed to have a best friend, she is one of my biggest supporters and has always been there for me. I am a major animal lover, with 3 dogs and 1 fish. I also have several hobbies including playing basketball, volleyball, cheering on my cousins, and driving my side-by-side. Whether it be hanging out with my friends or family, something exciting is always just around the corner . The bond between my family and I continues to amaze me in ways that they never have given up on me, no matter what or how crazy of an idea I have or have had. My parents have always taught me valuable lessons and I will never forget that. Volunteering with my church is another important part of my life, working with the childrens church, bible school, even being a counselor in training for church camp. Taking pictures of God’s beautiful creations or reading is another blessing I will always treasure. One of my favorite quotes I have come across in my collection of books that I feel will help me accomplish my dream is “In life there were moments when you had to take risks, but everything you put on the line was worth it in the end.” written by an unknown author.

Even with all the twists and turns in my short life my outlook and goals still remain strong in having a career in the medical field. With my thirst for helping and healing others I know I will not rest until I am recognized as a specialist in my field. I so desperately want to reach my goal and with that accomplishment I think I will feel whole. I do realize that hard work pays off and that's what I feel like I have done for so many years! Life is not always rainbows and butterflies; however, I am ready for any challenge!

I chose the medical field because I have always been fascinated to learn how bodies work and why they do what they do. I get my inspiration from my dad, with him being a flight paramedic, he has shared facts and learning experiences with me throughout my life. I consider myself one of the luckiest girl to have a dad to share such wisdom. Not only is education, support from others, and determination helping me reach my ultimate goal, I have been granted a very generous opportunity to represent my community, as well as Texas. I was nominated for the award of excellence and actually received the honor by the Congress of Future Medical Leaders. This is an honors-only program for high school students who are dedicated to the service of humanity through medicine, either as physicians or in scientific research. This is a prestigious three day medical conference taking place on the campus of the University of Massachusetts Lowell. This is a distinguished opportunity and I am forever grateful for the nomination by my parents and the selection by the Congress committee. I look forward to being a delegate and representative for not only my community as well as the great state of Texas. I will always keep a very special quote close to my heart– “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”.
