At In Flight, Inc., we empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to reach for their hopes and dreams and support a meaningful quality of life.

We believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to live a meaningful life, filled with purpose and independence. One of the ways In Flight is trying to empower people with intellect and developmental disabilities (I/DD), is by knocking down the barriers that lead to a purposeful and independent life. However, we cannot do it alone.

A survey conducted by the Department of Applied Behavioral Sciences identified the top barriers of people with I/DD striving to live independently, along with addressing how those barriers increase as those with I/DD age. The result showed the greatest barrier to independent living is personal safety (94.7%). The concern of personal safety increases as those with I/DD age as their mobility is more likely to become limited, making the independent skills they have learned more difficult. Personal safety barriers include fire hazards, slip and falls, home security, and accessibility. Cognitive ability and aging may make these factors a greater risk (forgetting to turn off the stove, difficulty navigating stairs, answering the door for strangers, inability to travel to medical appointments, etc.).

In Flight acknowledges these barriers and are addressing them by providing essential resources to our program participants. However, we need your support further our vision and make it a reality. Our ambitious goal is to raise $250,540 which will be dedicated to advancing our program participants potential, lead a purposeful life, and be as independent as possible: 

1. Smart House Technology: By utilizing today's technological advances such as smart stoves, smart fridges, and doorbell cameras, we can not only increase personal safety but independence as well. By adding this technology into our Residential Program, your donation will be providing the ability to make independent household skills more accessible and safe for all residents.

2. Skill Boxes: As a person-centered organization, we create individualized goals with each person we support. To enhance household skills, and thus increasing their independence, we believe that by creating skill boxes that specialize on a particular skill, we can provide a unique and entertaining way for individuals to focus on specific skills that lead them to their goal.

3. AED Devices: AED devices, also known as  automated external defibrillators, increase survival from a sudden cardiac arrest to 40%. With CPR alone, chance of survival is only 17%. Although our staff are CPR and First Aid certified, which includes training in how to use an AED device, no location has one. With your donation, we will be able to purchase one for each program location, not only providing increased safety measures for our individuals, but our staff and community members.

As we embark on this exciting journey, we are thrilled to share that we have already raised $7,500 towards our $250,540 goal. However, we need your continued support to reach the finish line and make a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.
