Habitual Roots began because Kevin Wong and Justin Ervin saw a need for emotional wellness services in the Charlotte Mecklenburg area. As trained systems engineers, they saw a gap in Charlotte's wellness system. The people who most needed mental and emotional healthcare services and support systems (women, minorities, those of low socio-economic status, and the elderly) had the least access to them, mostly due to lack of/insufficient insurance or lack of awareness/education.

So, they created Habitual Roots as a non-profit dedicated to providing donation-based support systems and wellness services to Charlotte's inner city.

Habitual Roots is a team of emotional wellness professionals (certified life coaches, yoga instructors and meditation guides) offering Anxiety and Stress support groups, community yoga and meditation classes, as well as grounding group hikes and wellness discussions to raise mental health awareness and create a supportive community that provides encouragement and education for its members to pursue emotional wellbeing.

It is through this work Habitual Roots aims to put the ‘u’ back in hUman and serve those in need in both Charlotte, NC and Denver, CO.
