Charleston Farms Community Garden is a local community garden in the Park Circle area. We offer plots for neighbors and residents to grow their own nutritious food. We also have several public plots available for anyone to pick from. We are proud and excited to add 5 plots to the community garden with these beds which will allow us to reduce our waiting list for plots!

We welcome donations large and small. Every little bit will help us towards our goal. Each Vego Garden bed is $259. Or for as little as $8, you can help us buy the dirt to fill them. We would also be thrilled for donations of bagged soil and compost. Any single donation of $500 or more qualifies for our special "sponsor a bed" program. You would be guaranteed a plot at the garden and have the option to place a small sign in a bed recognizing you or your business's contribution.

The Charleston Farms Community Garden Story

Charleston Farms Community Garden has a long history. It was founded by long time Charleston Farms residents including the late Mr. Charles Ellis. As many of the longtime participants retired, they opened up the community garden to the wider Park Circle Community with the hopes that it would remain open to the public and encourage the next generation of home gardeners and farmers. In 2017 we re-founded the dormant Charleston Farms Community Garden. Located at 1633 Sumner Ave, we have been honored to regrow it and expand it to share with our neighbors.

What originally started as a traditional in-ground garden has, over the last 6 years, transformed to include 6 raised bed rented plots, 2 public food plots, 2 pollinator flower gardens, and a blueberry patch. Last year Keep North Charleston Beautiful installed overhead irrigation, which changed our small space into the only community garden in the region with automatic watering.

Our two Community-Pick areas have been successful in providing pick-your-own vegetables, berries, and flowers for community members.

Throughout the year, our pollinator garden provides not only food for bees and native bugs, but also bouquets for neighbors and visitors. Arrangements have been delivered across our community, hopefully bringing color and joy to residents at the local Senior Home, sick neighbors, and new mothers.

The Community Center also provides benches, a Little Free Library, and hosts events for local schools and community groups who volunteer or come to learn.

We have partnered with groups including We Grow With the Flow to host events teaching children self-sustainment and healthy eating through fun activities.
