What is Mental Health Awareness Month?

This month is dedicated to bringing awareness to mental health. At FundaMental Health, that means more openness, more vulnerability, and more sunlight as we open the conversation around mental health conditions and mental wellness.

We believe in sharing our story, in hopes that maybe we'll inspire even just one more person to have the courage to share theirs.

Why do we care?

We care about mental health because we’ve been there...

Picture this: a boy from North County San Diego is about to graduate from a great university. He enjoys weekend trips to surf and maintains a healthy relationship with his girlfriend but suddenly feels off… He can’t pinpoint the cause of this feeling in his life but struggles to find joy. He seeks help only to be met with lists of mental health providers, out-of-pocket costs, and an overwhelming experience. Luckily, he has the resources to explore his mental health struggles and afford therapy with support from his family. Yet, as he begins to feel the changes in his life from mental health care, he reflects on the challenges of finding the right provider, navigating insurance, and paying for quality services while feeling isolated throughout the process.

This is the story of our founder, Wyatt, who is fortunate enough to afford care with support throughout the process. He understood that his situation was unique, so he decided to do something about it.

FundaMental Health was born out of his struggles and his dream of changing the experience for others struggling with a mental illness, (especially those who lack privilege). So, we are on this mission to transform the way mental health care is accessed and experienced in our San Diego community and beyond.

What are we doing exactly?

FundaMental Health connects individuals in need to quality mental health care.

The FundaMental Health way means we’re right by your side, each step of the way.

We begin by listening, by understanding. Many of our Clients are experiencing therapy for the first time in their lives, and often are still learning how to talk about their mental health. We currently serve up to 13 Clients at a time, each Client experiencing weekly therapy sessions and conversations with our FundaMental Health Care Team.

While we are focused on our 13 Clients, we have a dream of reaching 130 Clients, and eventually 1300 Clients (and more!) as we continue to grow and widen our impact in our community.
