Since 2014, more than 31 pulp and paper mills have closed across the country, eliminating 42 million tons of annual pulpwood demand and $20.9 billion from the U.S. timber economy. Behind those numbers are private landowners without local markets for their timber, rural communities losing jobs, and families questioning the future of their ownership

But there is hope—and you are a part of it.

With your support, FLF has been and will continue to create real solutions. This year, FLF has:

• Secured a $300,000 grant to open new international export markets for southern yellow pine woodchips—restoring value to low-grade timber and giving landowners a market outlet where capacity has been greatly reduced in Georgia. Once complete, this innovative technology can be replicated to expand wood chip exports from across the country to the European Union and beyond.
• Launched Forest Factor: The Sustainability Tracker to show how strong timber markets mean better forests, cleaner air and water, and stronger rural economies.
• Supported the work of the Forest Landowners Association in fighting for regulatory certainty, economic stability, and market access.
