Your FoCo Roller Derby is back this year on March 24th for our annual Skate-a-Thon fundraiser to raise money for our league. This fundraiser supports our loaner library of skating equipment, a scholarship fund for our volunteer officials, money for league operating expenses like renting skate spaces and more. Plus, we’re excited to announce that this year, our adorable partners at the FoCo Junior Roller Derby League (for skaters ages 7-18) will receive 5% of our proceeds from Skate-a-Thon, so we’re not only funding our adult league, but also investing in the future of our sport.

For Skate-a-Thon 2025, our derby players have split into two amazing nautical teams: Team Mermaid and Team Pirate! After working together to defeat the larger threat of the Kraken, the mermaids and pirates are disagreeing over who gets credit for slaying the beast. It was a true team effort and the credit goes to everyone involved, but the two sides have gotten caught up in their pride and decided to settle the matter the best way they know how: a Skate-a-Thon.

How does it work? Players for Team Pirate and Team Mermaid will be in a fantastic relay event where you can raise money per player for every lap skated around our practice track at Rollerland. Join in the fun of this social media spectacular, where we’ll be hosting an incredible livestream event on Twitch this year sure to get all fans together for a great cause. With mermaid and pirate derby-themed stickers for supporters, a set of incredible league emcees to host the event, plus, lots of opportunities to connect directly with our teams, this is great fun for a great cause. So, time to ask yourself: are you team pirate or team mermaid?
