Support Fern Battin on the USA Luge Youth National B Team!

My favorite memory related to luge was my opportunity to compete in the Empire State Winter Games. It was very fun, exhilarating and a good bonding experience for my team but also structured me as an athlete competitively on my own.
My hope of representing the United States in the Winter Olympics is a huge drive in my inspiration and motivation to do my best in the sport of Luge.
My USA Luge team is a great group of people. They are positive and uplifting, and they push me to pursue my dreams. We support each other as a team as we practice and compete - being part of a team that is comprised of athletes from across the country has helped me grow as a person and athlete.
After a summer 2024 USA Luge Slider Search, I was selected to participate in a November screening camp. I met great kids; all were excited to have their first experiences sliding on the ice track at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. My coaches are former, as well as prospective Olympians - dedicated and passionate competitors in the sport. After the search, I was asked to join the team mid-season in January of 2025.
In addition to regular daily workouts I attend about 11 weeks of training at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY. Attending these sessions costs approximately $100 per day. That, in addition to track fees, and travel to other tracks, costs around $15,000 per year.
My parents are both educators as well as Christmas tree farmers (one more plug to like our page on Facebook: Green Dreams Farm:). On the farm I help with planting trees, caring for and trimming trees, as well as our wreath making and centerpiece making events.

Please come see me compete at two events at Mt Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid. The NYS Empire State Winter Games are on Saturday, February 7th, 2026 (8am-12pm) and the Norton Youth National Championships are Saturday, March 7th and Sunday, March 8th (8am-12pm) - which is also my birthday!
