This Giving Tuesday, we’re asking for your support to address an urgent need. New York City’s firefighters put their lives on the line every single day, to keep us safe. But behind their bravery, many face their own invisible battles; grappling with mental health challenges that too often go unaddressed.

Friends of Firefighters provides free mental health and wellness services for New York City’s FDNY members, and their families. We offer counseling, wellness, and resources to help individuals and families cope with the emotional toll of being a first responder.

Our goal for Giving Tuesday 2024 is to raise $15,000 which will directly fund 100 counseling sessions for the FDNY community.

Why This Matters:

Firefighting is a profession that demands incredible strength, resilience, and courage. In addition to the physical impacts of the job, the emotional trauma and stress (responding to life-and-death situations, witnessing loss, and dealing with the aftermath of high-intensity incidents) can have a devastating impact on their mental wellbeing. Unfortunately, the stigma surrounding mental health often prevents our heroes from seeking the help they desperately need.

At Friends of Firefighters, we offer free counseling that addresses the unique challenges firefighters and their families face. Our clinicians are trauma-informed, trained to work with first responders, and understand the complex emotional strains that first responders endure.

With your support, we can ensure that our Bravest and their families have access to the resources they need to heal, cope, and thrive.
