A Rising Need in Our Community
Lexington is facing an unprecedented food insecurity crisis. Recent reports show a 30% increase in homelessness, and with rising food costs due to inflation, more families, seniors, and individuals are struggling to afford healthy meals. At FoodChain, we see this reality every day as we provide fresh, nutritious meals to those who need them most.

Since 2011, FoodChain has been a lifeline in our community, serving over 1,250,000 meals, empowering over 75,000 individuals through food literacy education, and strengthening our local food economy by sourcing from small, family, and BIPOC-owned farms.

FoodChain's Nourish Lexington program builds justice oriented solutions to food insecurity by feeding our community while prioritizing Ky farmers and ensuring access to our program for BIPOC, urban, young, and beginning farmers and those residing in Fayette Co. Every year, so many families fall through the cracks of traditional holiday food access programs, but FoodChain ensures that there is equitable access to fresh, nourishing food through our programs by reducing barriers to entry, creating a delivery program, not requiring ID or proof of income, and providing information in multiple languages.

Feed our neighbors: We’ve served 200,000 meals this year alone, including 24,000 meals for kids this summer.
Empower future food leaders: Through our BUFF program, nearly 50 student interns gained hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture, creating 176 mini aquaponics systems and 300 take-home container gardens in 2024 alone.
Support Local Farmers: We’ve partnered with small, family, and BIPOC-owned farms to source fresh, nutritious ingredients, bolstering Kentucky’s local food economy and ensuring those in need receive meals made with high-quality, local produce.
