Duke has been diagnosed with a Chemodectoma, a tumor at the base of his heart, that typically grows very slowly. Lucky for Duke it was discovered while still small, giving us an option to manage it. Cardiology and Oncology recommend chemotherapy for Duke. He will need to take 110mg of Palladia 3x per week, to keep this tumor at bay. THE COST OF THIS MEDICATION IS $800 PER MONTH!!! We have shopped around for the lowest price at various pharmacies, but they are all in line with each other.

We share Duke often with all of you. We share pictures of the beautiful life he’s living with his loving family. He’s a true rescue story… A senior dog, dumped at a shelter. He was fearful, unsure, not trusting, and had no light in his eyes. Thankfully, he found his way to Meaghan and Brendan, his forever mom and dad. Over the course of two years, he’s learned what it means to be loved. He’s transformed into the best of everything. He is our rescue ambassador.

When we placed Duke with his family, we agreed that he would be a “forever foster”, meaning his medical care would forever remain our responsibility, as a rescue. Well, sweet Duke, bless his heart, has made sure to keep us on our medical toes. He’s covered all the typical boxer health issues and then some. It’s a good thing he’s besties with everyone at the vet because he’s a frequent flyer. Duke has allergies, arthritis, and bad hips. He had a corneal ulcer that took FOREVER to heal. Last year he had a very angry and very large mast call removed from his leg. That one had us nervous but in true Duke fashion, he pulled through like a champion. Duke is also under the care of Dr. Suzanne Cunningham, Cardiologist, at Tufts in Grafton. He has ARVC, which requires daily medication, and frequent heart check appointments.

We promised to care for this boy, and we are going to. It’s our hope that we can raise some money to earmark for Duke’s medical needs. If we can’t raise funds, our rescue bank account will deplete rapidly, and we won’t be able to save other boxers who need our help.

If you can find it in your heart to donate towards Duke’s ongoing medical care, we would be forever grateful. Duke is happy and living his best life. He loves to go for walks, do zoomies with his fur sister, and he’s the best big brother to his new human sister. If we thought for a second, that Duke’s quality of life was in question, we would not be going this route with him. But he’s a fighter and if he could speak, we know he’d say, “please help me”.
