I love paddling and I love the many lakes, rivers, and ponds that comprise the aquatic environment in the Adks. I have been lucky to be part of the Moody Pond community in Saranac Lake. My family moved to the area 37 years ago and I am thankful for such a strong and supportive community to raise three children. They swam, skated, fished, paddled, and played hockey on Moody Pond. Their life started with daily stroller rides around the pond and before I knew it they were biking, sledding, and running around the pond with Baker Mt. as the backdrop.
Paddling has been an integral part of my life journey. In 1994 my co-worker asked me to paddle the 90 miler with her. My response was easy " I have ample endurance. I don't have any experience in long distance paddling but YES I'm willing for the challenge! We asked veteran paddlers for advice, we trained early before work, and we practiced portaging the carries. The best parts of the experience was being in nature with loons, blue herons, otters etc. and the quiet surrounding us. This would have been my 27th consecutive year in the 90 miler. I have paddled 24 years in a C2 canoe ( 2 paddlers) and 2 years in a C4 canoe (4 paddlers). I have many dear friends that I have met during those years. This year the 90 Miler has been cancelled sadly, but the outdoors is still awaiting all paddlers!
My challenge will be a combination of my love of paddling and Moody Pond!
I will paddle 90 miles between July 11th and August 8th. My team's name is Looney Tunes Paddlers in honor of the resident loon that also loves Moody Pond! I will be counting loons and listing the body of water paddled during this time. Paddling will be in a C2, C4, solo boat, kayak or paddleboard during the challenge. Tracking will occur using 'map my route' app. My last mile of the challenge will be on Moody Pond!
PLEASE consider donating to my challenge or joining the team with your own personal challenge. Summer of 2020 is here and Friends of Moody Pond encourage you to be outdoors challenged and healthy!
