From Cart To Corner-Store | A Food System For Us!
Our Story
A COMMUNITY AT A CROSSROAD, LOOKING TO GO FROM FOOD SCARCITY TO SECURITY. FROM CART TO CORNERSTORE, WITH THE COMMUNITY!
At the intersection of Westview Dr. and Lawton st. in the Ashview Heights Community, sits a run-down grocery store that has plagued to community for years due to violence, drug, and alcohol usage. All of this on the same block as our local elementary school. At the center of these crossroads stands neighbors, farmers, and students, led by Shawn Deangelo Walton the founder of Everybody Eats Together and Wecycle Atlanta Inc. who has been dedicated to lead the community into a new era that is highlighted by healthy food access, jobs, education, and equitable community development. All by walking them across the street.
"We are developing a faith-based, community-owned and operated, food-hub to cement our communal goals of food security in Ashview Heights and abroad" - Shawn Deangelo
Wecycle Atlanta Inc. was established in 2011 in response to a need engage neighbors in new, communal, agricultural and transportation systems utilizing bicycle and agriculture education and access. Everybody Eats Together LLC. was birthed in 2019 in response to a greater need to coordinate a food system owned and operated by the community. We have identified a location in which the owner is cooperative with our community ownership desires. It resides in the West Atlanta community of Ashview Heights, that is surrounded by amenities that will aid bolster the communities food system goals such as: 2 Urban Farms, 3 Public Schools, 3 Churches, and 6 Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
For more than 15 years, we've been advocates and active participants in educating, edifying, and engaging community members in their local food and transit systems. It is our mission, starting this year, to further these goals by establishing a community-owned and operated the entire commercial complex by 2027, and just recently, we've been given the opportunity to operate the cornerstore within the commercial building! This gives us the opportunity to go from Grocer to Corner Store as soon as February 2026!
