Making Friends With Snakes, Featuring Charlestown State Park Naturalist Lydia Robertson
Saturday, July 13th, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM EDT
In Person
Location: Origin Park Mural House 1235 W Kenwood Ave, Clarksville, IN 47129 Ages: 6 - 12 Capacity: 20 The program is free but advance registration is required and donationssssss to Origin Park are encouraged. Come join Miss Lydia for a fun midsummer chat about sssssssssnakes! We’ll sit under the beautiful cottonwoods and maples on Silver Creek and learn about why our slithery friends are important to the ecosystem and how we can be part of helping protect them from harm. Then, just to show our snake friends how much we like them, we’ll do a snake-themed craft that can be taken home later! If you’d like to learn more about Indiana’s snake population before the program, Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources has some great learning materials just for kids: https://www.in.gov/dnr/kids/animals/reptiles/ Please bring a snack, a lunch, and a refillable water bottle, and don’t forget sunscreen and bugspray. Children should dress for the weather, as this is a fully outdoor program that will take place rain or shine and only be rescheduled in the event of extreme inclement weather. Please monitor your email the day before in the event we need to reschedule. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All participants must have a waiver signed onsite by a parent or guardian. Origin Park is for everyone. Please let us know if your child needs any kind of accommodation for mobility, sensory, or any other issues, and we will do our absolute best. Sssssservice animals are welcome, but pets are otherwise asked to please stay home so they don’t ssssssscare the snakes. Lydia Robertson is a naturalist and environmental educator with over 10 years experience working in the field of Environmental Education all around the country from North Carolina to California and many places in between. She brings her experience and passion to the programs she leads to foster a meaningful connection to our natural world. Photo of garter snake by Aaron Fernando, Unsplash
