We’re a brand-new grassroots nonprofit in Gary, Indiana, working to connect youth to land, literacy, and legacy through creative, hands-on programming. Founded by a local educator, Lake Michigan Roots is committed to building the kind of affirming, skill-based programs that our city’s young people deserve — with a special focus on gifted, underserved, and community-oriented youth.

We’re developing:

After-school programs with homework help, enrichment, and leadership
Weekend workshops on gardening, entrepreneurship, and languages
Seasonal events like Youth Beach Cleanups and Back-to-School Giveaways
Creative learning tools like multilingual workbooks and cultural guides
Youth stipends and volunteer training to support community service

Right now, we need startup support to build this from the ground up — one book, one shovel, one child at a time. We’re asking for your help to raise funds for:

Supplies and teaching materials
Food and snacks for youth programs
Stipends for youth and volunteer support
Translated learning materials (Chinese, French, Fulani, Creole, Spanish)
Back-to-School and Beach Day events
Website, outreach, and marketing

🌊 $100 supports an entire beach cleanup day

📚 $250 funds translation and printing of multilingual workbooks

🛠 $500 helps us host a full-day workshop or community event
