Save the Great South Bay invites local teachers and students to join us on Thursday, May 22nd from 9-11 AM at the View in Oakdale for an engaging and action-driven Speaker Series, "Climate Change and the Great South Bay". Our expert speaker, Melissa Parrott, Executive Director of the Students for Climate Action, will explore the urgent climate challenges facing Long Island’s coastal ecosystems and examine the science behind climate change, its local impact on our bays, and the tangible solutions that can restore and protect these vital waterways.

Participants will learn about rising temperatures, ocean acidification, erosion, and water quality decline—along with innovative solutions such as, living shorelines, citizen science initiatives, and renewable energy options. Beyond understanding the issues, students will discover how they can take direct action, from engaging in advocacy and hands-on climate action projects to exploring careers in conservation and sustainability.

This workshop offers an opportunity to connect, learn, and become part of the movement to protect our bays for future generations. Audience Q&A session will be held for student engagement.
