Noa and Mahe’s families have lost everything and need our help. We’ve organized this fundraiser to help them get essential supplies and start rebuilding their lives.

By now, most of you have heard about the volcanic eruption in the Pacific Ocean near the Tongan Islands. The eruption of an underwater volcano was likely the biggest recorded anywhere on the planet in more than 30 years. A massive plume of ash, gas and steam spewed 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) into the atmosphere and sent tsunami waves crashing across the Pacific.

This blast directly affected the GeoStabilization International Family.

Noa Okusi and his son Mahe Okusi work for GSI New Zealand. Noa has been with the company for nearly 15 years. He is a gentle giant and one of the kindest gentlemen you could meet. After moving from Tonga in the early 2000s, Noa worked hard to provide his family with a stable and loving home. He has embraced the Kiwi culture and is a proud leader of his local Tongan church.

Mahe Okusi has worked for GSI New Zealand for about a year now. He returned from Tonga during the early COVID lockdowns so he could work with his dad and support his wife and newborn child. Unfortunately, his wife, child, and extended family are still in Tonga and have been left homeless. They have lost everything.

From the initial first reports of the eruption, it took the Okusi family four days to communicate to their loved ones. Then, it was only a quick two-minute call to say they were alive.

We have been busy supporting Noa and Mahe as they round up clothing, cooking utensils, non-perishable food, and PPE equipment, including dust masks for the ash and bottled water. This weekend, these vital supplies will be sent over in the first relief containers leaving New Zealand.

Please donate and share this page as widely as possible.
