Our organization is Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation (GWPF), a 501c3 nonprofit, founded in 2010 on the principles of ending violence and injustices against women and girls. Our mission is to empower women and girls through education to end gender-based violence, especially female genital mutilation, more commonly known as FGM.

Our campaign for this Giving Tuesday is our Wholesome Organic Relief program. The purpose of this program is to provide support to FGM survivors and their families. This program creates a safe platform to share their experiences and make information and resources available to help the survivors. We offer rehabilitation and support to FGM survivors, such as restorative surgery sponsorship. There is currently a waiting list of 14 women for the restorative surgery.

When women undergo FGM, they encounter lifetime severe pain, bleeding, and even develop infections. Depending on the severity of the cutting during FGM, they can encounter painful urination, menstruation, and even intercourse. The scars do not always heal properly; they can be left with tissue buildup and keloids. Women continue to live with a lifetime of physical and psychological scars. A French Urologist, Dr. Pierre Foldès, together with another Urologist, Jean-Antoine Robein invented a technique to repair the damage caused by female genital mutilation. This is referred to as the “Foldès Technique”.

Upon discovering that there exists a way to relieve FGM survivors of their pain, GWPF set out to raise funds each year to sponsor the surgery of at least 2 women. The restorative surgery restores what was removed during FGM. The cost of this surgery is $2000. This amount does not include meals and roundtrip transportation to the surgeon’s facility. The Foldès Technique allows survivors to restore some semblance of a normal life and minimizes the negative health effects of this harmful practice.

Our goal this Giving Tuesday is to raise $5000 to enable us to send 2 women to surgery in 2022. Please help us send these women to get the relief they need to lead normal lives. Maybe you can afford to “sponsor a surgery” or you and a friend or colleague can go in together to “sponsor a surgery”. If 100 donors gave $50, we would meet our goal. If you do, not only will GWPF be forever grateful to you, but also the woman whose surgery you sponsor.
