We invite you to support a special campaign honoring the remarkable life and lasting impact of Garbis Mouradian - a beloved community leader, artist, and cultural visionary who spent decades enriching Armenian life in the Washington, DC area.

Born in 1942, Garbis carried a deep passion for Armenian culture, the arts, and youth development. After immigrating to the United States in 1967, he poured his heart into building a vibrant Armenian community rooted in heritage, unity, and service.

Garbis was a founding force of the Homenetmen Washington Chapter, where he organized the Massis soccer team, served as its goalkeeper, and later helped launch the scouting movement. He fundraised tirelessly so that young athletes could participate in leagues and camps — often bridging divides and bringing the community together through his warmth and charm.

But it was the stage where Garbis truly came alive. He founded the Hamazkayin Theater Group of DC and spent more than 30 years directing, acting, and performing. His comedic timing, sharp wit, and love of storytelling brought joy to generations. He also sang for over three decades with the Ani Choral Group, and helped nurture a love of the arts in young and old alike.

Above all, Garbis’s mission was to preserve and pass on the Armenian spirit — through song, story, sport, and service.

Today, we are proud to launch a campaign to honor his legacy in the most fitting way possible: by building a permanent theatre stage at our future Agoump dedicated in his name. Garbis spent a lifetime on stage - it’s only right that generations to come will step onto a stage that bears his name, continuing the cultural work he loved so deeply.
