Kinship care, where relatives or fictive kin step in to care for children when their parents are unable to do so. This plays a crucial role in providing stability and continuity for vulnerable children. However, kinship caregivers often face numerous challenges, including limited access to support services, financial strain, and legal complexities. Generations Together is dedicated to addressing these challenges and empowering kinship families to provide safe, nurturing environments where children can thrive.

The Need: Across the state of Georgia, there is a growing number of children (101,000) in kinship care due to factors such as parental substance abuse, incarceration, mental health issues, or death. These children often experience trauma and upheaval, leading to heightened risks of poor outcomes without adequate support. Kinship caregivers, many of whom are grandparents or other relatives on fixed incomes, face significant financial, emotional, and logistical burdens as they navigate the complexities of caregiving.

Generations Together is committed to supporting kinship families every step of the way. By providing the resources, guidance, and advocacy they need, we empower kinship caregivers to create safe, nurturing environments where children can grow and thrive, regardless of their circumstances.
