A Book in Hand Is a Gift That Lasts All Year

It might be toasty outside, but we’re already dreaming of storybook snowflakes and parade day magic! Every holiday season, the Randolph Partnership for Children brings the spirit of giving to life by walking in up to eight Christmas parades across Randolph County—and we’re not just spreading cheer, we’re spreading chapters.

During the parades, our staff and over 80 volunteer “book elves” hand out more than 6,000 brand-new children’s books to little readers lining the streets. It’s not just merry—it’s meaningful. The Gift of Reading helps build home libraries and turns the page on a child’s future by encouraging early literacy and bonding between children and caregivers.

Why books? Because every child deserves the chance to sleigh reading from the start. Research shows that having books at home boosts brain development, school readiness, and long-term well-being. And let’s be honest—there’s snow better feeling than seeing a child light up with a new book of their very own.
