We are asking for aid in the care of Gizmo the cat, a 13 year old cat in our rescue's care who has entered Hospice Care.

We first heard about Gizmo on a local facebook group in Fall of 2024. He was an elderly cat that somebody kept posting on this facebook group, looking for placement for him. Then, they said he found a home, but really, he went missing and later showed up on somebodies porch, and decided he was going to live on their porch instead. We could tell Gizmo was an elderly boy who deserved more than a porch, so we took Gizmo in.

Typically, we do not use fosters for most of our animals, only cats who are not adoptable. However, at the time of Gizmo's intake, we didn't have a single open spot in the building, so we asked one of our trusted volunteers, Marlene, to take Gizmo in. If you've been an avid follower of Pet Angel, you will remember Marlene as our former kitty Chunk's Foster Mom! Marlene was there for Chunk through his final days, and had space in both her home and her heart for Gizmo, so she agreed to take him in until we had some space for him to join the rescue.

After Gizmo joined Marlene, he later visited our vet and we discovered that this sweet, 13-year-old kitty is not in the best of health. After many tests and vet visits, Gizmo has been diagnosed with both kidney disease and gastrointestinal lymphoma. Gizmo is on prednisone and will continue to be on prednisone for the rest of his days. If he experiences any loose stool due to the lymphoma, he also receives Albon. Right now, we are experimenting with different kidney prescription foods to see what he likes the most, and once he picks one, he will stay on that diet for the rest of his days too. Gizmo will also continue to regularly see our vet to monitor the progression of his illnesses, so we can keep him comfortable.

In early January of 2025, we had a conversation with Marlene and she decided to be Gizmo's hospice home. He will continue to be funded by Pet Angel, so we can take care of his medical expenses, but instead of living out the rest of his days in the shelter, he will get to live the rest of his days with Marlene in her home, where he is warm, comfortable, adored, and loved. With the treatment Gizmo is receiving, we don't really know how long he will be in hospice care. He could be with us for years if he stays healthy! But it is our goal that Gizmo is comfortable, kept as healthy as he can be and most of all, that he is loved and adored all the rest of his days, however long that may be!

We are asking for donations toward supporting Gizmo throughout the rest of his days. Any and all donations given in Gizmo's name will go directly toward the cost of his future vet visits, toward the cost of his medications (The prednisone and Albon) and toward the prescription food that Pet Angel provides for him. The $1,500 we are looking to fundraise will sponsor 6 months of Gizmo's care.

We are so thankful for Marlene, and that she has agreed to be his new mom and will love him all the days he has left! And we are thankful for you in aiding us in providing for Gizmo. He deserves all the happiness in the world, and we're so excited to be able to offer him that! Thank you for considering donating toward Gizmo.
