Running for Hope : Chicago Marathon 2025

On Sunday, October 12, I will be running the Chicago Marathon to raise funds for research into PFIC and related rare cholestatic liver diseases—a cause that is deeply personal to me and my family.

Over the past five years, my amazing wife, Anne, and our wonderful daughters, Emma and Claire, were diagnosed with Progressive Familial Intrahepatic Cholestasis (PFIC)—a rare genetic liver disease.

PFIC refers to a group of inherited disorders that cause progressive liver damage and can lead to cirrhosis and end-stage liver disease. It's estimated to affect only 1 in 50,000–100,000 people worldwide. Right now, there is no cure.

That’s why I’m partnering with the PFIC Network, the only organization solely dedicated to this rare disease. They are working to accelerate research and bring real hope to families like ours.

Your donation will directly support the groundbreaking research, patient resources, community building events, and educational tools for providers provided by PFIC Network. One of those researchers is Dr. Richard Thompson, a foremost leader in PFIC research at King’s College London. Dr. Thompson is making remarkable strides in understanding PFIC’s mechanisms, developing new diagnostic tools, and identifying potential therapies.

We had the opportunity to meet Dr. Thompson this summer, and I left that meeting feeling hopeful and encouraged by the progress he is making. But hope needs support to become reality.
