Let's Author a Different Future for Delaware's Kids
Right now, too many children in Delaware are falling behind in reading; not because they can’t learn, but because they lose ground over the summer.
Only about 37% of Delaware third graders read on grade level, and the rates are even lower for children from low-income households and many Black and Latino students. Each summer, students in high-need communities can lose two to three months of reading progress, compounding year after year until the gap becomes hard to close.
But this is a story we can change.
Through Get Delaware Reading Summer, United Way of Delaware and more than 25 community partners provide children with:
-
High-dosage reading tutoring
-
Structured literacy instruction
-
Access to books and supportive mentors
This proven approach helps children return to school confident, prepared, and ready to succeed; setting them on a path toward graduation and a livable career.
