Gracie's Hospital Stay
Just 10 hours into the new year, we are starting off strong with our first emergency. ![]()
Gracie was telling us that she did not feel well. For the past two weeks, she has been undergoing treatment for aspiration pneumonia. She finished her course of antibiotics on Sunday and was scheduled for a recheck tomorrow. With a quick assessment, we saw that her respiratory rate was increased, she was very lethargic, and had a temp over a 105°. No waiting until tomorrow with that high of a fever. ![]()
Our vet came out to the farm to perform an ultrasound of Gracie‘s lungs. She has evidence of fluid in both sides. Likely what happened was that the two weeks of antibiotics were working and that’s why she improved the way she did, but the course was not long enough to completely wipe out all of the infection. Now that she has been off of meds for four days, it is coming back. ![]()

The decision was made to hospitalize Gracie. She will receive around the clock monitoring and IV antibiotics. She will have a respiratory culture sent off to hopefully help us find out exactly what bacteria she has in her lungs so we can treat it effectively and fully. ![]()
Right now, we do not have any information about how long Gracie is going to need hospitalized treatment. We are hoping she can come home early next week once she’s had a few days of IV medicine, and can be transitioned to oral or intramuscular antibiotics at the farm for the rest of her treatment.
PER DAY COST OF HOSPITALIZATION: $400-500. Her respiratory culture is expected to be another couple hundred. ANY AMOUNT HELPS GET GRACIE HOME!!!!
Please say a New Year’s prayer for Gracie! ![]()
