Polycystic kidney disease (“PKD”) is a genetic condition that can cause kidney failure. It is estimated to impact 600k people in the US and has a 50% chance of being passed down from one generation to the next. PKDO is a 501C3 charity to ensure that families with polycystic kidney disease (“PKD”) have a path to manage the onset of symptoms today, delay the disease’s progression tomorrow, and eliminate it for future generations.

What We Are Doing

Solution #1: Increase Live Donor Transplants - Initiated pilot program at University of Utah Medical Center ("UofU") to increase Live Kidney Donation.

It is already proven Live Kidney Donation from anonymous donors can be increased significantly with a strong community-based approach and additional resources to assist with outreach, education and VIP services for Donors.
UofU has embraced this approach and PKDO will provide the funding for a three-year trial for dedicated staff and resources to provide these services.
Once the trial proves to be successful in increasing live donor transplant, the charitable funding will be replaced by sustainable funding by UofU. The pilot will then serve as a template for other transplant centers around the country to add these services.

Solution #2: Awareness of Lifestyle Choices & Pharmaceuticals to slow Disease Progression - Supporting the PKD Foundation’s efforts to increase awareness of PGT and strategies to slow the progression of the disease.

Solution #3: Access to PGT - Providing funding for a year 1 pilot program to allow 2 families with PKD to undergo Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing ("PGT") to ensure their children and future generations never suffer from PKD.
