Why This Matters

In October 2023, Ujima attended the HBCU Climate Change Conference in New Orleans, where we connected with universities nationwide, learned from environmental justice leaders, and built partnerships with organizations like The Nature Conservancy, Missouri Department of Conservation, and River City Outdoors. For many, like Sunflower Institute 2022 & 2023 alum Adara, this was her first time at a conference and visiting New Orleans.

Now, as we prepare for the 10th Annual HBCU Climate Change Conference (March 5-9, 2025), we need your help to make this trip possible!

This year, Ujima is bringing three staff members and three Sunflower Institute alums to the conference for a week-long learning, networking, and advocacy experience.

Alums in high school or college will present research on Ujima and The Sunflower Institute, while staff and other alums will engage in outreach, build partnerships, and seek funding for our programs.

Your support will help cover:

Van rental & gas for the trip from St. Louis to New Orleans
Conference registration fees
Materials for poster presentations
Hotel stays in Nashville (March 4 & 9) and New Orleans (March 5-9)

Meals not included in conference accommodations
Flights for alums who need to return early for school & work
