In early May of 2024, we learned that our gym floor needed to be replaced. Originally, we thought we had a few more years; however, after 60+ years and the wear and tear on the court, we determined that we needed to replace it. We reviewed and discussed the following issues that have caused the need for replacing the floor now:

• water damage from leaking skylights that have since been replaced and properly sealed,

• lack of a vapor sealant that allowed moisture to damage the gym floor from below

• an increased number of dead spots on the gym floor

• widened gaps in the wood that were temporarily filled with epoxy due to excessive moisture being absorbed by the floor

• the fact that we cannot sand the wood floor anymore due to being sanded too many times

After meeting with Father, and our parish and school maintenance team on multiple occasions, we began researching solutions. We hoped to repair sections of the floor; however, it was determined that this is no longer an option. Subsequently, we received multiple bids and we have chosen to work with Brandsen Floors. In late June/early July, Brandsen Floors will remove the floor, and replace it with a new hardwood floor.

This project is currently projected to cost $168,000.  

We plan to cover this cost using:

• small fundraisers this spring

• pledges from parishioners still being finalized

• private donations and corporate sponsors

• funding from potential grants

• generous donations from people like YOU!
