For over 150 years, Indigenous children on this land were forced into relocation and assimilation by government-funded, church-run Indian residential boarding schools. Our role at Haa Tóoch Lichéesh (HTL) alongside our partners, has been to promote community healing around this and other historical violence, and to recognize intergenerational traumas still affecting our Alaskan communities today. However, this is only one aspect of our work.

Guided by the wisdom of our ancestors, we reckon with injustice and commit to healing and liberation, while honoring our interdependence. Haa Tóoch Lichéesh is a trauma-informed, survivor-centered violence prevention organization. By working to (re)build community connections and Indigenize (decolonize) systems, we are helping to shape a future where the voices of those who have been historically oppressed are lifted and heard, and all people feel supported and safe in our communities. Originally founded in Juneau, our newly incorporated nonprofit organization intends to support all of Southeast Alaska and beyond, and we are asking for your support while we grow into this expanded role.

We believe in the power of collective healing and are working to co-create bodies of work that leverage our strengths in response to community needs, but we cannot do it alone. We recognize that the breadth of our mission is more significant than ever before as we continue to create spaces to heal through culture and promote community accountability and healing justice across Lingít Aaní.
