Let me give you some background through an adaptation of the introduction to television’s longest running program (Law and Order SVU):

In the world of interscholastic competition, track and field participants are considered especially creative and adaptable. At Holy Trinity, the dedicated athletes who participate in this sport are members of an elite squad known as the “Alley Cats”. This is our story.

If any of you have been following the team through HT’s social media, you probably are wondering about the reference to the teams’ nickname, the “Alley Cats”. Holy Trinity does not have a track, so we must improvise. Therefore, access to transportation is essential. All our competitions are away from HT. When we can’t get to an actual track to practice (the closet public facility is in Montrose Park at Wilson Avenue and DuSable Lake Shore Drive, a 20 minute drive in each direction), we practice in the alley behind the school. Not ideal, but we make it work. We have mapped out a 200 meter distance that enables us to replicate the training modalities we need to prepare for competition. For longer distance work, we use the square block loop that encloses the Noble Square Cooperative. Throwers work in the cul-du-sac at the end of Cleaver. This plus the basement hallway constitutes the training space for the team.

Collectively, here are the accomplishments of the athletes in the 2024-2025 season:

At the individual level, every team member sets at least one personal record. In total, 48 personal records were established, including four relay personal records. Sprinkle in a sectional champion/state qualifier and a school record, I say we did all right for a bunch of “Alley Cats”.
