Aspen’s Medical Care Fund: Help Us Give Aspen a Second Chance

On January 20th, fate brought Aspen into our care in a way we’ll never forget. Our Executive Director was on her way to the shelter when she witnessed a heartbreaking moment—a stray Husky was hit by a truck on Searights-Herbert Road. The dog rolled under the truck and, miraculously, ran to the side of the road where she collapsed. Bleeding from her mouth and with multiple wounds, she desperately needed help.

Springing into action, our team loaded the injured dog into the car and rushed her to Cheat Lake Animal Hospital. Despite the trauma she endured, this resilient girl was in stable condition upon arrival.

Aspen’s injuries included multiple contusions, severely bruised lungs and pneumothorax, but incredibly, she had no broken bones. Shortly after arriving to the hospital, Aspens condition quickly declined, but the amazing veterinarians and staff at Cheat Lake worked tirelessly to stabilize her, even intubating her at one point to manage the air buildup in her chest cavity. By Friday, Aspen was released into foster care—a testament to her strength and the amazing veterinary care she received.

Even with generous shelter discounts from Cheat Lake Animal Hospital, Aspen’s medical care left us with a significant bill. However, we’re overjoyed to have saved her life and to be able to give Aspen the second chance she deserves.
