Horse & Halo is requesting assistance from anyone who may have information regarding a shooting incident that injured one of our rescue horses, Lulu.

Lulu was shot, and the bullet is most likely still lodged in her body. While she is expected to recover, her healing will require several weeks and ongoing veterinary care.

At approximately 11:40 p.m. last Friday, several gunshots were heard near the rescue. We immediately contacted 911, and deputies with the Ada County Sheriff’s Office responded promptly. At that time, no animals appeared injured.

By the following morning, Lulu was not moving normally and had visible blood on her legs. Our veterinarian examined her and confirmed a gunshot entry wound approximately 9mm in diameter, with a wound tract measuring 2–3 inches and no exit wound, indicating the bullet remains inside.

What We Know

A small gray SUV, possibly a Jeep Patriot, was observed passing the rescue seconds after the shots were fired. The vehicle traveled east on Hubbard Road, stopped at the Hubbard and Stewart intersection for nearly a minute, then turned around, passed the rescue again heading west, and continued east toward Eagle Road. It is unknown whether the vehicle turned north or south onto Eagle Road or continued along Hubbard Road.

This remains an active investigation, and we appreciate the continued work of the Ada County Sheriff’s Office. To enhance safety, additional security cameras have been installed to protect the horses, volunteers, and property.

We will not speculate about motive. Our focus remains on Lulu’s care and ensuring the facts of the incident are established. Updates will be shared as new, verified information becomes available.
