Upon learning of a cancer diagnosis, one of the most stressful tasks for patients is finding the funds needed to cover household and day-to-day expenses due to the mounting costs associated with medical treatment, travel and time away from work. Unfortunately, insurance and personal savings are not always enough to cover these costs. This is where the Faith Regional Foundation can help.

The Hope Fund was established in 2013 to provide ongoing funding for items and services that support cancer recovery and survivorship for patients at Faith Regional Health Services. Because of gracious donors to The Hope Fund, we can offer a number of items to cancer patients and survivors free of charge. A physician refers patients to a Nurse Navigator, a healthcare professional who is specialized personal advocate that helps a patient navigate through the treatment process, consistently assessing a patient's emotional, clinical, financial and spiritual needs. Once a patient is identified as having a financial hardship, an electronic application requesting funding from The Hope Fund is submitted. The approved funding will finance one or more of the following:

Gas cards for cancer patients traveling over 50 miles for appointments or treatments.
A hotel room for patients who have very early, or emergent procedures scheduled.
Grocery gift cards to help supplement food costs to free patients' funds to be used for other financial obligations.
Nutritional supplements, if needed to meet a patient's specific dietary needs.
Prescribed cancer-related lymphedema sleeves.
Specific to breast cancer survivors, The Hope Fund can provide bras, breast prostheses, and equalizers that have been individually measured for patients.
Various supplies within the Appearance Center.

As we embark on this season of giving, we urge you to consider The Hope Fund at Faith Regional Health Services. A dollar given to The Hope Fund is a dollar used to assist a patient. Your dollars can ease the financial burden of a local cancer patient and, in turn, help them focus less on the financial strain of their diagnosis and more on winning their battle against cancer- what better gift to give this holiday season than HOPE.
