Hope Reins- Year End Giving

Hope Reins' mission is to improve emotional and behavioral health, empower individuals, foster resiliency, and improve overall wellbeing in a nature-based environment. We strive to help people of all ages in a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment.

Equine assisted psychotherapy and learning is much more than caring for or riding a horse.  Our program follows the EAGALA model, incorporating and Equine Specialist and a Licensed Mental Health Professional.  They work with horses and clients as equal partners.  Because this is provided by licensed psychologist, clients can submit reimbursement requests from their insurance company. We also work with individuals to provide free or low-cost sessions based on ability to pay. Dr. Kenney has also been a Give an Hour provider for many years.  With this program, providers provide mental health services on a pro-bono basis.

Hope Reins also provides educational sessions for reading and math using Horse Powered Reading ®.  Social-emotional issues, ADHD, anxiety, and depression can often get in the way of success in school.  This program incorporates the power of horses with learning strategies.  We are excited to provide this throughout Bismarck-Mandan with a grant from the North Dakota Community Foundation.  Our ultimate goal would be to provide not just each classroom, but each student, with a free book after participating with their school.

This campaign is to help us expand these services.  Our wish list includes many items, including but not limited to, help with costs caring for and feeding each of our equine partners, as well as updating their facilities.  We would love to be able to offer scholarships for therapy and learning sessions as well as help with transportation costs to our site.  Our long-range goal is to have an indoor arena, with overnight retreat accommodations available, by 2030.  Currently our North Dakota weather limits us to good weather.  To start, we would like to add a small heated indoor space, the size of a large shed, for indoor office sessions, monthly book club, and storage of accessories.  Ideally our mini, Red, could join us inside for short sessions.
