About Hudson Valley Swim Gaithersburg

Hudson Valley Swim is locally owned and operated by Nick and Laura Yohannes, serving the Gaithersburg, MD community seven days a week at our locations at 314 Copley Place and 602 Quince Orchard Road. This mission is deeply personal. As a child, Laura survived a near-drowning incident. A terrifying and traumatic experience that could have ended very diAerently. That moment shaped her life and fuels our commitment to ensuring no other family experiences the same preventable tragedy.

Drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death for children, yet it is largely preventable. Yet for many families in Gaithersburg and the surrounding communities, access to swimming lessons is limited not by desire, but by cost. Hudson Valley Swim Gaithersburg exists to change that.

What Your Donation Supports

Through this campaign, donations fund free, 12-week swim lesson scholarships for children ages 5–17 from low-income households. These scholarships remove financial barriers and give children the opportunity to learn essential water-safety and swimming skills that can truly save lives.

Scholarships provide students with swim lessons for 12 consecutive weeks, fully integrated into regular Hudson Valley Swim classes. Students receive the same curriculum, instruction, and expectations as all swimmers, building not only skills, but confidence and belonging.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and donors, children in our community are learning to swim, regardless of income. Your donation directly removes financial barriers and keeps kids safe by teaching them a skill that could one day save their life.
